Govinda’s Wife Sunita Ahuja Says He Spent More Time with Co-stars Than Her, Opens Up About the Challenges of Their Marriage
Govinda, one of Bollywood’s biggest stars from the 90s, entertained millions with his acting, dancing, and comic timing. But behind the glamour, his wife Sunita Ahuja says life as the wife of a superstar wasn’t easy.
In a recent chat with Instant Bollywood, Sunita got real about her emotional struggles and the challenges she faced in her marriage to the actor. According to her, Govinda spent more time with his female co-stars than he did with her.
“You Need a Heart of Stone”
Speaking openly, Sunita said,
“Being the wife of a film hero, you have to build a heart of stone. You watch your husband spending more time with heroines than with you.”
She admitted that it was tough, especially in an industry where actors are always surrounded by glamorous co-stars. Despite these challenges, she emphasized how important trust is in a relationship.
Marriage Needs Trust and Patience
Sunita said that trust is the foundation of any long-lasting relationship. Without it, she explained, things can fall apart quickly. She stressed the importance of looking at the big picture—especially in a marriage that lasts 30 to 40 years.
Govinda Wasn’t There for Their Children’s Births
She also talked about a very personal phase—motherhood. Sunita revealed that when their children, Tina and Yashvardhan, were born, Govinda wasn’t around because he was busy shooting films. She stayed with her mother-in-law during that time, since traveling with small kids wasn’t easy.

Sunita said that living with Govinda’s mother helped her learn the true meaning of family. She praised Govinda’s deep respect and love for his mother, which she said was rooted in both love and fear. Govinda and Sunita got married in 1987. They have two children—Tina Ahuja, who made her acting debut in 2015 with Second Hand Husband, and Yashvardhan Ahuja, who is preparing for his Bollywood debut. Yashvardhan has worked as an assistant on films like Dishoom, Baaghi, and Kick 2.
Even though the journey wasn’t always smooth, Sunita’s story shows the strength, patience, and love it takes to stay committed in a high-pressure world like Bollywood.
