EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Shivangi Joshi Faced Discrimination from Famous Designer for Being a TV Actor
Shivangi Joshi, a well-known face in Indian television, recently opened up about a disappointing experience she had with two designers. She shared her story in an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla.
Shivangi, who will soon be seen in Bade Achhe Lagte Hain alongside Harshad Chopda, talked about how some designers still treat TV actors differently from Bollywood actors. She remembered an incident where a designer refused to give her an outfit simply because she works in television.
She said, “Some time ago, I felt really bad about something, but then I thought—okay, it’s their job, and that’s how they want to handle things.”
Shivangi explained how earlier it was common to hear that top designers didn’t want to give their clothes to TV actors. “They only wanted to give their outfits to Bollywood stars. This used to happen a lot,” she shared.
She also spoke about two designers who used to happily work with TV actors when they were just starting out. But now, those same designers say, ‘We only focus on films and Bollywood now.’ Shivangi said this made her realize that this kind of discrimination is still happening even today.
Later on, one of the designers did offer to give her some outfits—but only the ones that nobody else wanted to wear. This left her feeling hurt and confused. “It didn’t feel right,” she said. “I believe that some TV actors have just as much, or even more, reach than some Bollywood actors. This mindset really needs to change.”
She did mention that things are slowly improving, but this recent experience showed her that there’s still a long way to go.
On the work front, Shivangi Joshi will be seen next in Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, which premieres on June 16.
